Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)
Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) is a data-driven process used to improve the percentage of website visitors, users, or customers who complete a desired action, known as a conversion. These actions may include making a purchase, submitting a form, signing up for a newsletter, requesting a quote, downloading content, scheduling a consultation, or completing another business goal. CRO focuses on improving the effectiveness of digital experiences by understanding user behavior and reducing barriers that prevent conversions.
Businesses use CRO strategies across websites, landing pages, e-commerce platforms, email campaigns, and digital advertisements. Common CRO practices include A/B testing, user behavior analysis, improving website navigation, optimizing calls-to-action (CTAs), enhancing page speed, simplifying forms, refining messaging, improving design and user experience (UX), and personalizing content. Performance is measured using metrics such as conversion rate, bounce rate, click-through rate (CTR), average order value, lead generation, customer acquisition cost (CAC), and return on investment (ROI).
By optimizing existing traffic and improving the customer journey, CRO helps organizations generate more value from their marketing efforts without relying solely on increasing visitor numbers. It enables businesses to make informed decisions based on user behavior, improve digital experiences, increase revenue, and maximize the effectiveness of advertising and marketing investments.
For example, an online retailer may use CRO by testing two different checkout designs to determine which version results in more completed purchases, then implementing the higher-performing version to improve sales.
