Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a business strategy and technology system used to manage, organize, and improve interactions between an organization and its customers, prospects, partners, and other stakeholders. CRM focuses on collecting and analyzing customer information, improving communication, streamlining sales and marketing processes, and building stronger long-term relationships.

Businesses use CRM systems to manage customer data, track leads, automate communications, monitor sales activities, support customer service, and personalize marketing efforts. Common CRM functions include contact management, sales pipeline tracking, email marketing automation, customer support management, reporting and analytics, lead scoring, and customer segmentation. CRM platforms help teams maintain a complete view of customer interactions across channels such as websites, email, social media, phone, and in-person communication.

By centralizing customer information and improving collaboration across departments, CRM helps organizations increase efficiency, enhance customer experiences, improve retention, generate more qualified leads, and drive revenue growth. It is a foundational component of sales management, digital marketing, customer experience (CX), and relationship-based business strategies.

For example, a consulting firm may use a CRM system to track potential clients, record communication history, schedule follow-ups, manage proposals, analyze sales performance, and ensure that every customer receives consistent and personalized communication throughout the relationship.
